Fantastic product for a great price.
This is a baby food grinder. Before preparing baby food in ANY mechanism you need to cook it soft. Plan on doing that before using this grinder. This is NOT a food processor.
That being said, this is exactly what I needed for my 8-month-old who is eating fresh veggies, pasta, meats and some cheeses.
My electric countertop grinder/food processor needed far too big a batch made for each serving. This is exactly what I wanted - the ability to take the veggies/meat my husband and I are eating for dinner and chop it for my baby girl.
I have a feeling the people who said the "grinder is too hard to turn" did not cook the food soft enough and for those reviewers who said "it's wobbly and gets food all over the counter" did not TIGHTEN the handle after washing it before the first use. When tightened correctly it locks into place perfectly.
I take a frozen veggie (with NO salt added... check the ingredient list) or two, heat a few pieces at a time and then add oats and formula. I can grind the whole thing with this product and even serve in the same bowl. Perfect.
Yes - this is not a product for someone who wants a very fast feeding. Save your pre-packaged meals for those days. But for fresh, cooked (soft) vegetables ground into easy-to-eat texture for a little one, this is ideal.
Buy it, tighten the handle well, cook the food soft before using it and you'll really love it! Promise! -- EXACTLY what I was looking for... PERFECT!
My baby was a very fussy eater. She hated baby cereal and fruit/veggie purees and showed a lot of interest in our food. So, i tried giving her a mixture of rice, cooked veggies and some beans or lentils. The blender was no good as it created an excessively smooth paste, and mashing with the fork was not an option as my baby found it hard to swallow. This grinder works wonderfully. I add cooked rice, steamed veggies and cooked lentils and it makes an appetizing mash that she loves. We dont eat meat, so i wouldnt know how this would work for that purpose. -- Perfect for rice and cooked veggies
Needed this for someone with alzheimers .
This worked perfect for pureeing every day food so she can eat it.
With this product she can eat what I fix for dinner.
Instead of buying speciality foods which can be costly.. Thanks a bunch.. -- Fantastic Item
I really really like this product. The poor reviews seem to be from people who are not using it correctly and quite possibly did not read the directions to clear up their issues. I purchased this product 2nd hand, so it was well-used before me and by me as well.
#1 - I have never seen metal shavings in our food nor have I had trouble with rust. I have hand washed it as well as put it in the dishwasher.
#2 - The grinder plate/handle portion is EASY to remove. There is a knob at the top (blue in the picture) that you can tighten to prevent the handle from rotating. Once this is locked, it is quite easy to twist the grinder plate/handle piece out of the green plastic portion. This knob will also allow the handle to rotate faster or slower as needed, perhaps solving the problem that others mentioned about their wrists being sore from using this product. Also a problem that I have never had.
#3 - I haven't ever had the base leak, there is a rubber seal that goes all around the "plunger" part that keeps liquid from leaking out.
#4 - I have never had it "fall apart" while grinding. I suspect that this could happen if you do not have the grinder plate portion fully tightened into the green plastic base. Again, this could be achieved by fully tightening the knob at the top of the grinder plate/handle portion before trying to attach it to the base.
#5 - This is for making baby food, not grinding hard foods. The food needs to be cooked until soft, except for some fruits which are already soft, before being run through the grinder.
#6 - Yep, it is small-ish, makes ~1 portion at a time, which is perfect for early solids eaters and when you want to share table foods versus preparing large batches of food at once.
Overall, I love this grinder. I would definitely recommend it, we use it almost daily and couldn't be happier with the performance, which is why I just typed the longest review EVER!!! LOL -- Great food mill for the price!
